August 11, 2025 Newsletter
Dear Neighbors,
By now, I'm sure you've heard the news that Donald Trump has declared a military and police takeover of the city that will last at least 30 days, and US Attorney for DC Jeanine Pirro has said, "We need to go after the DC Council and their absurd laws." I'm disgusted by these actions, and I condemn the threat against our elected lawmakers.
If you're feeling frustrated, angry, or hopeless, I'm right there with you. If you're feeling moved to take some kind of action, I'm right there with you on that, too.
In the past few months, I have been following the lead of Free DC for guidance about how to take action. They are hosting many events to teach us about resisting authoritarianism and protecting Home Rule. Here are a few upcoming events:
● Join a campaign orientation to learn about how we can protect DC's Home Rule (various dates)
● Join a campaign orientation and cop watch training (August 12)
● Attend the Ward 7 Team Meeting (August 17)
● All Free DC Events can be found here
Other opportunities to get involved:
● Know a service member who is being asked to take illegal action? Send them information about the GI Rights Hotline
● Want to protest? Here's a list of all protests planned for DC
Finally, here is some information about what to do if you encounter ICE or other federal officers:
Let's keep looking out for each other and if you have resources you'd like me to share, please send them my way. If you need me, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Katie
Help find a home (or foster family) for Piglet
Thanks to the care and concern of several neighbors, this sweet pup who was found abandoned in the park was taken to Brandywine Valley SPCA. He needs a new family - or a temporary foster because the shelter is quite full - so please spread the word. He needs a home without young kids but did very well when he met some patient teenagers. His information should be posted on the BVSPCA website soon. Look for Piglet!

- Meet income eligibility criteria (either limited- or moderate-income households)
