August 25, 2025 Newsletter

Hello neighbors,

It's the third week of Trump's takeover of DC, and I know there are still a lot of questions about how we can keep our neighbors and ourselves safe. I hope you'll join me virtually this Thursday at Councilmember Felder's Town Hall: Know Your Rights. Join us to learn about what federalization of MPD means, how to stay safe, and what rights you have.

Date: Thursday, August 28, 2025
Time: 6-8 PM

Free DC: Morning and Afternoon School Support

In March, ICE agents tried to kidnap a DC school nurse on her way to work one morning. Putting school nurses into ICE detention won’t make DC communities safer.

Free DC is calling on school communities to have morning and afternoon school support teams to support safe arrival and dismissal for all students.

Sign up for Morning or Afternoon School Support at your school.

Sign the Petition: Don't Cut Down RFK's Heritage Trees

Join us in calling on the DC Council to rescind the waiver provision that exempts these trees from the Heritage Tree Law and to preserve as many of the trees as possible by incorporating them into the RFK campus design. The final vote on the RFK stadium legislation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 17.

On September 6, visit Casey Trees at the DC State Fair to secure your very own FREE serviceberry tree! We will be giving away 60 trees on a first-come, first-served basis, so get there before they’re gone.

Week Without Driving: September 29-October 5

I will be participating - join me! Week Without Driving invites you to experience, reflect, and share what life is like without driving. It’s a chance to understand daily life for the millions of people in the U.S., and nearly 40% of District residents, who cannot drive due to age, disability, income, or other barriers. It’s an opportunity to tell your story and help reimagine what transportation options could look like in your community.
