Hello neighbors,
I hope you're staying warm! Here are some post-storm updates for you:
Trash and recycling
Alley Collection:
- DPW is working around the clock using bobcats to clear pathways through alleys for collection.
- Put your trash and recycling cans out as best as possible on the regular collection day and leave it out until it has been collected.
- Check DPW social media daily for updates on progress.
- If your trash and recycling does not get collected on your regular collection day, leave it out and it will be prioritized the next day.
- If it still has not been picked up two days after your regular collection day, report it to 311.
Compost: Residents with back or side alley food waste collection are encouraged to put their bin in the front at the curb this week, if they are able, to support safe and efficient service while crews work through weather impacts. Updates to alley collections next week will be communicated to residents and posted to zerowaste.dc.gov/foodwastecollection as alley conditions improve.
Snow Removal: Serve DC is still urgently looking for folks to sign up to volunteer to help those in need shovel the sidewalks. Learn more here: https://servedc.galaxydigital.com/snow-team/

2026 Nature Camps for Kids with Casey Trees
Casey Trees’ TreeWise spring break and summer camps give students the opportunity to discover the wonders of nature, spend time outdoors, and flex their creativity—all while becoming active caretakers of our planet. Activities are rooted in STEAM themes, including science experiments, crafts, neighborhood hiking, and a field trip.
Our programming is focused on local wildlife, climate change, pollinators, urban forestry, caring for our local watershed, and environmental stewardship. Campers will explore the natural world while working as a team, making new friends, and developing a connection to the outdoors.
Drop off is from 8:30am-9:00am and pick up is from 3:00-3:30pm. Each week is limited to 20 campers who live in or attend school in DC, with priority given to students in Wards 5, 7, and 8. Scholarships are available.
