January 24, 2025: Snow Storm Edition

Hi neighbors,

First of all, welcome to the new recipients of the ANC 7D04 River Terrace Newsletter. Ms. Bishop shared the RTCO email list with me this week to help everyone get connected to important ANC and city communications.

I usually send newsletters on Mondays but since the Mayor declared a State of Emergency due to the upcoming winter storm, I wanted to share some information I received recently:

• A representative from the Mayor's office sent me this message about reporting your concerns about the conditions of our streets: "Following the storm, if you or your constituents have photos documenting conditions on your streets, please feel free to send them to me. I can flag these concerns in real time for the DPW snow team to address. If photos are not available, that is completely fine - providing the street name and block number will allow me to visit the area and submit documentation as needed." Email: amber.wright1@dc.gov

• Check out the Snowplow Tracker to see where and when plowing is expected to happen in the neighborhood.

• Residents are encouraged to sign up for free email and text alerts and updates through AlertDC, the District’s emergency public notification system, at alert.dc.gov.

• All DC Public Library locations will be closed on Sunday, Jan. 25 due to the impending inclement weather.

• Residents should expect delays in trash collection and are advised to place their Department of Public Works (DPW) serviced trash, recycling, and food waste bins out for collection before the precipitation begins to avoid risk of falls. Leaf collection and holiday tree collection will be suspended during the snow deployment.

• Residential property owners are required to clear snow and ice from their sidewalks also within the first eight hours of daylight following the end of a snow event.

• Fallen overhead power lines should never be approached or touched even if the lines do not appear to be live or sparking. Call Pepco at 1-877-PEPCO-62 (1-877-737-2662) to report fallen electrical lines and power outages.

• If you experience any water or sewer issues at any time, contact the DC Water 24-Hour Emergency Command Center immediately at 202-612-3400.

Stay safe and warm!
