January 26, 2026

Hi neighbors,

I hope you're all staying warm after this storm. I have a few snow-related updates for you today:

Schools: Due to weather conditions, all DCPS schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 27.

Public Libraries: The Library will open the following locations from 10am to 5pm on Tuesday Jan. 27: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, Mt. Pleasant Library, Tenley-Friendship Library, Anacostia Library, Lamond-Riggs/Lillian J. Huff Library, Woodridge Library, Dorothy I. Height/Benning Library and Southwest Library.  DC Public Library is open 24/7, 365 days a year online.

Trash and recycling: There will not be trash or recycling pickup tomorrow. As I get more information, I will share it with you.

Compost: Compost collection will slide two days - so if you usually get compost picked up on Tuesday mornings, it will be moving to Thursday morning. If your compost is picked up in the back or side of your house, you'll need to move your compost bin to the front because the collection point is moving for this week. Set your bin near the curb at the front of your house so it is visible and easily accessible for the crew.

Shoveling: residents and businesses are responsible for the sidewalks, walkways and alleyways around your home and business. Please keep them shoveled, and check in with neighbors to remind them to clear sidewalks or ask if they need assistance.

More Snow Possible Next Weekend? According to the Capital Weather Gang:

As you may have heard, some models show potential for another winter storm near the East Coast this coming weekend. Our message for the DMV today: It’s too early to cheer, panic, or change any plans.

It does seem increasingly likely that a storm will form near or off the Mid-Atlantic or Southeast coast, and it could be a big one. Some modeling over the past couple of days has placed the storm track close enough to the coast for snow in the D.C. area. Some hasn’t.

As of now, the balance of model data tends to favor the storm missing the D.C. area to the south and east, with a better chance of hitting or clipping the Eastern Shore. But that could change with a few relatively small shifts in the overall atmospheric weather pattern.

That's all for snow updates, but please keep scrolling to read about some other upcoming deadlines and opportunities.

Best,
Katie
