October 27, 2025 Newsletter

Hello everyone,

This week’s newsletter is packed with updates including: details on the upcoming construction that will close the Benning Road ramp to 295, a bunch of community events, and information about a Thanksgiving turkey giveaway hosted by Councilmember Felder.

I also wanted to share that I’ve joined several other Commissioners in signing a letter asking the Council to hold an oversight hearing on MPD’s cooperation with ICE. We want them to use this hearing to determine if MPD's work with ICE has violated DC law or standards. A few of you raised concerns about this at our last RTCO meeting, so I’ve included a link with contact information for government officials you can reach out to if you’d like to support the call for a hearing. The more people who reach out the better!

Finally, don’t forget to scroll to the bottom of this newsletter for new links to the events calendar and past newsletters you might have missed.

Have a great week, and have a fun and safe Friday if you're heading out for trick-or-treating!
Katie

Benning Road Ramp to 295 Construction Update

I just received word that construction on the ramp from Benning Road to 295, both northbound and southbound, will begin shortly after November 3. Work will take place from 7 PM to 7 AM, Monday through Friday, for approximately 8-10 weeks. If there are any other changes to this plan, I will let you know.

PaveDC

The 2025 Paving Plan is published on the PaveDC website before the start of the construction season. The website also includes separate tabs for sidewalks scheduled for repair and the Alley Restoration Plan for Fiscal Year 2025. For more information about these projects, please visit DDOT's interactive tool, PaveDC.

This event will include an overview of estate planning concepts and documents such as a will and probate, trust, healthcare directives, power of attorney and more. Learn about the steps you can take to plan for your future and protect your property, possessions and loved ones.

At this event, DC residents will have the opportunity to learn more about their property's ownership. DC residents will also have the opportunity to complete on-site intake for estate planning, probate, and/or foreclosure legal services, and may be paired with a lawyer from a participating organization at no cost; strict income restrictions apply for those interested in legal representation.

Advanced registration is required, but a limited number of walk-up spots may be available.

This event is in collaboration with DC Affordable Law Firm. If you have any questions regarding this event, please email sudi.tasissa@dc.gov.
