Update to closure of the Benning Road Ramp to 295
A few weeks ago, I shared that construction work will be closing the Benning Road Ramp to 295 in the evenings. The latest update is that the target start date is September 29 - however, some permits are still pending, so I'll send out more information if that date changes.
Testify in Support of the Bottle Bill
You may have noticed the DC Environmental Network and 29 other DC focused organizations have been working hard to get a bottle passed in the District. Working with Councilmember's Nadeau and Allen we helped secure introduction of a bill with 11 of 13 Councilmembers co-introducing it.
Bottle bills work! They are a proven solution to bottle-and-can pollution. Ten U.S. states have a successful bottle bill. CA, CT, HI, IA, ME, MA, MI, NY, OR & VT. They account for 27% of the US population yet provide over 50% of all bottles recycled in the U.S. Bottle bill states have much higher recycling rates than non-bottle bill states. More materials collected for recycling means less litter and trash.
This is the biggest bill the DC environmental movement has on deck. If you register to testify in-person or virtually, consider joining us for a special virtual testimony training on September 25th at 10:30 AM featuring Councilmember Brianne Nadeau and other special guests. See more information below.
