Missing Person Alert

A neighbor shared that her friend's son Dilan is missing and was last seen and the University of Maryland Campus. Please take a look at the missing person alert and share with your contacts, especially if you have friends or family in Maryland.

Mail-In Ballots and Early Voting

The D.C. Board of Elections automatically sends mail-in ballots to all registered D.C. voters - it looks like they've already started mailing those, so look for them in your mailbox in the coming days. You can return your ballot via mail or use D.C.'s locator tool to find the nearest drop box.

If you wish to vote early in person, early vote centers in the District will be open from Monday, Oct. 26 through Sunday, Nov. 1 between 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day. Find vote center locations here. Voters may cast their ballots at any voting location, regardless of their residential address.

If you need to register to vote in D.C., you can do that on the D.C. Board of Elections website. (Not sure if you're registered? You can check at that same link.)

ANC Meeting 10/13

We'd love to see you at our next ANC 7D meeting next Tuesday, October 13 at 7 PM. This is a great opportunity to hear from DC government agencies and also speak up about things that are important to you.

RFK Updates

  • Community Benefits Agreement: The Community Benefits Agreement was signed as part of the RFK legislation. It requires the Commanders to provide no less than $50 million over the 30-year term. It includes commitments such as $22 million for the Commanders Youth Academy, $7 million in small business support, and $6 million for the establishment of two grocery stores, one on the RFK campus, and one outside of the campus and east of the Anacostia River. To learn more about the final CBA, click here.
  • Master Plan: Due to the many concerns about the parking garages on the site, Councilmember Felder joined Councilmember Allen and Councilmember Parker in sending a letter to the National Capital Planning Commission encouraging them to consider alternatives and improvements to the current parking garage plan. This includes exploring ground-level retail, below-grade construction of the structures, lowering the overall parking capacity, and relocating or swapping the locations of the two garages. You can read the full letter here.

DC Water Rate Increase

In June, I joined a DC Water hearing to testify against the proposed water rate increase. Unfortunately, DC Water rates have increased starting Friday, October 2. The total residential monthly bill will increase about $9, almost 6%, for average usage, according to DC Water. For help paying your water and sewer bill visit dcwater.com/cares or call (202) 354-3600. OPC's Water Services Division also stands ready to assist consumers at (202) 727-3071.

DPR Capital Projects Dashboard

This new Capital Projects Dashboard is an interactive tool where users can go to find information about ongoing funded capital projects. Users can click on any project shown on the map or find a specific project using a list on the left of the screen.  Selecting a project displays project information, including the project phase, location, description, and budget.

On the tracker, we can see that the River Terrace Recreation Center is in the Predesign Phase!

Rat Abatement Online Tool

I just learned from DC Health that the rat abatement petition website some neighbors had been using, and which I sent out for others to join, is not something that DC Health is officially using. They have asked that if there are multiple residences on neighboring blocks that are requesting rodent abatement services, residents can submit a rodent petition found on their website here. Once a petition is submitted, the Rodent and Vector Control Division will coordinate the appropriate inspectors and reach out to the residents to inform them of the date and time inspectors will arrive to treat the properties. After two weeks, the inspectors will return to each property to ensure that the treated burrows are still inactive.
